Office of the Massachusetts State Treasurer is seeking interns. Candidates should be college students or recent graduates who are looking to gain government experience.
The Treasury is responsible for managing the state’s daily cash flows and state-issued debt. The Treasurer's office administers the state employees' retirement system and the Unclaimed Property division, and oversees independent agencies including the Massachusetts School Building Authority, Alcoholic Beverages Control Commission, Massachusetts State Lottery Commission, and the Massachusetts Pension Reserves Investment Management Board.
The Treasury internship program provides an opportunity for students to learn in an environment designed for personal growth. This program is intended to be a multifaceted experience tailored to the individual participant. The training focuses on professional development, communications, government & public relations, as well as a knowledge of the functions of each department within the Treasury.
Internships are available in the following departments.
Office of Empowerment
Policy
Clean Water Trust
Unclaimed Property
Lottery
Alcoholic Beverages Control Commission
Administration and Finance
Legislative Affairs/Research
Communications/Press
Scheduling and Advance
Office of the State Treasurer
and duties will include:
Office Administration
Event Planning Set up/Breakdown
Communications Process
Assist in answering the phones
Data Entry
Special Projects
Constituent Services
Strong applicants will be well organized, detail oriented, self-motivated, and have a positive attitude and willingness to learn. We ask for a commitment of at least 15 hours per week with applicants who can commit to more being given priority. This internship is unpaid, but academic credit can be secured.
The internship is based in various locations. While we are flexible on start dates, we are looking for interns to start immediately.Hours are flexible. Excellent verbal and written communication skills required. Must have basic computer and word processing skills (Windows, MS Office, including Word, Powerpoint and Excel). Prior State House, non-profit or organizing experience is preferred, but not required.
