The Islamic Society of North America (ISNA) is excited to announce the appointment of Hazem Bata as its new secretary general.

Mr. Bata is a lawyer and activist, and looks forward to making outstanding contributions to the American Muslim community. He holds a Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from West Virginia University School of Law and a Master of Laws (LL.M) from Washington University in Saint Louis.

He practiced law in Florida and was a partner in Bata & Associates, P.A. working in real estate development and business law. Prior to joining ISNA, he served as Operations Manager for Bank of America where he managed the Mortgage Resolution Team (MRT).

Bata previously served as an executive council member of the Islamic Center of Morgantown for several years while in West Virginia. He was a legal intern with the Arab-American Anti-Discrimination Committee (ADC) and was active with various other American Muslim organizations in Florida.

“Brother Hazem Bata’s vision, passion and energy is inspiring,” said ISNA President Imam Mohamed Magid.  “He embodies the qualities that are needed in the next generation of leaders who are able to navigate across generations and cultures in order to engage in ISNA’s work for the American Muslim community and society at large.”

“I am excited to work with ISNA and see a real opportunity to continue building on its rich legacy,” said Hazem Bata. “I look forward to reaching ISNA’s goals of organizational excellence and service.”
