DIRECTORATE OF RELIGIOUS AFFAIRS
ANKARA

Dear Respected Brothers and Sisters:

On behalf of myself and the people of Turkey, I extend our deepest sympathy and condolences for the loss of your children, Deah, his wife Yusor and her sister Razan, who fell victims to a heinous crime that shocked the world. The whole nation of Turkey grieves with you. I ask Allah the Almighty to give you and your families strength, patience, and endurance in this difficult time. We pray that Allah has mercy on them and rewards them with Paradise. They were loved and respected members of their community who stood up with their modesty, piety, brilliance, and virtous and dignified lives. They willalways be remembered as such.

This tragic event has led to indignation and frustration among Muslims worldwide. The indifference of those who remained silent some in the mass media and government to these appalling murders has led to a deep sorrow and hurt in the Muslim community. Although this tragic incident and similar onesincrease our responsibility as Muslims in all fronts, those whohate the sacred and peaceful message of Islam, spreadingworldwide as a source of hope for humanity, seek to harmMuslims at every opportunity, disturb the peace of Muslimcommunites, and present Islam as an object of hate. The fabricated fears, hate and distortions about Islam disseminated by some in positions of power and authority to an unwary public has led to indifference and sometimes outright hostility towards Islam and Muslims. The fact that your loved ones lost their lives to such a hateful and despicable act such as this only reflects the hateful attitude and twisted thinking of those who would carry out such acts of terror and violence.

In spite of all this, we as Muslims will not cease from spreading our message of peace and mercy to all of humanity whoever and wherever they maybe. We are inspired by our belief to communicate with words of wisdom, speak for our rights, and show solidarity with those who seek justice.

I once again ask Allah the Almighty to bestow his blessings of grace and mercy upon Deah, Yusor and Razan. The prayers and thoughts of all our people go out to you and your families and we pray that such a senseless and ugly crime like this never happens again anywhere in the world.
